Pasty - A Michigan Food, A Miner's Cuisine

The Pasty has traveled a long way from being a Miners cuisine to a Unique Michigan Food in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The past is believed to have originated in Cornwall and was considered to be a tin miner's cuisine. It is made by placing the filling in the center of the circular pastry dough and folding it to cover the filling, crimping the semi-circular edge to seal it. This gives it the raised half - moon shape. The Cornish pasty traditionally contains sliced meat, potato, onions and parsley.

Where it all started

The earliest known literary mention to the pasty dates back to the 12th century. It also found mention in the ballads of Robin Hood and even in Shakespeare's work. In about 1850, miners began to dig for copper in the Upper Peninsula (the UP) of Michigan in the Keweenaw area. Being one of the first ethnic groups to become well established in the Upper Peninsula mining colonies, pasty making in Michigan originated as a convenient Cornish miner's cuisine. As michigan mining areas became home to other ethnic groups, such as the Finnish, Irish, Canadians, and other eastern Europeans, the idea of having a pocket sized, high caloric meal, caught on as a practical matter. Often miners did not come out of the mines for meals. A poorly provisioned miner would go hungry waiting for the end of the work day.

A pasty was a food that could be eaten on site without the hassles of finding the sparse sources of clean water to wash up before having lunch. The crust served the purpose of a handle, which the miners could hold and eat from the other end or eat from the middle. And so this was another reason for the pasty's popularity in mines, as miners hands were occasionally exposed to arsenic dust or other toxic substances. So coveted were these handy meals, wives placed initials on the crusts so an uneaten pasty could be claimed by its rightful owner later.

How to Heat and Eat?

An additional advantage of the pasty was it could remain warm for nearly 10 hours. Normally a miner began eating his pasty at breakfast and left the remainder for lunch. Sometimes a pasty would be subdivided to several sections for several meals, including dessert. Pastys were also useful as they could be passed down from surface ovens into mine shaft with ease. A meat and potato pasty could be reheated by a shovel against a light bulb. Or the pasty could be consumed cold.

What Pastys Are We Eating Today?

While the original pasty was filled with beef, vegetables and onions, variations are available in most markets today. The meat could be replaced by a creamed chicken, with vegetables. A vegetarian could replace meat with a cream of mushroom sauce and cheddar cheese or simply cottage cheese, for those watching their waistline.

Some Interesting Superstition...

It was traditionally believed that in order to please the evil spirits under the earth's surface, the crust of the pasty was discarded. This way the spirits would not harm the miners. Another superstition of fishermen to never have a pasty on board a ship at such was to invite bad luck.

Interesting Michigan side note...

The pasty is often thought of as a Finnish food in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This is from Finnish immigrants settling into mining camps with well established Cornish populations and adopting the Cornish utilitarian food. Subsequent immigrants then assumed pasties were of Finnish origin.

The Valuable Use of Netbooks

Netbooks are a great little invention that allows more options for students and people who just want to carry around something smaller. The netbook is smaller than a laptop but bigger than a Smartphone which make it the perfect size for a vast majority of people. There are some netbooks that are selling well making them great buys.

Netbooks are smaller than laptops. The screen sit around 10 inches and the frame around the netbook are also smaller. The smaller size allows for easier transportation which is great for commuters who want to use the internet while on the bus or train. There they can comfortably surf the net and stay connected with friends using something small enough to be portable and not be bulky like a laptop.

The Netbook is also bigger than a Smartphone. Smart phones are awesome but can be tricky when you want to email and check the internet in a comfortable way. Sometimes you want bigger keys to press and a larger screen to view. A netbook allows for easy access to the internet while at cafes and book stores, where you might want to lay something on the table beside a book or coffee.

Lots of accessories can be added to a netbook. There are security locks that can be purchase, anti-virus such as the 2010 version designed for netbooks, there are also netbook cases and sleeves. You can also find them in many colors, which makes it easier to customize into your lifestyle.

Having wireless internet right at your fingertips is one of the great things about having a netbook. And many of them come with ample storage space for saving pictures and loading applications. The battery life of netbooks is often longer than a laptop which makes it more travel friendly. With an Intel processor, the netbook makes it easy to stay connected with friends or carry on with business when you are traveling.

There are several models that are selling well. The Samsung 10.1 Intel atom N270 1.6 GHz, is popular and stylish. It comes with a beautiful LED back lit LCD and 250 GB of storage.

Another top selling netbook is the MSI Wind 10 inch Intel atom N280 1.66 GHz. It has a great battery life and offers all the convenience of having a netbook. The Acer Aspire 10.1 Intel atom N270 1.6GHz has excellent power and lots of storage offering 160GB.

Choosing the right netbook comes down to personal choice. There are many different features in a netbook, but you really have to dig down deep and realize what you need and what is important. If having more storage space is your priority then ensures that you get one that has the maximum amount that you will need. However if having a larger screen size is an issue than purchase a netbook with a bigger screen.

Prices range from a few hundred dollars to four and five hundred dollars. Sometimes you are simply paying for a name brand, while other times you are getting more features and better quality. Check out store sales to get a great quality netbook at a discount price. You can also try talking down a sales staff member to see if you can get a lower price when you are buying your netbook. Saving money on your netbook will make you feel great about using it.

How to Increase the Brightness of Your Laptop Screen

Do you struggle to clearly see your laptop display because it isn't bright enough? Have you ever wondered how to increase the brightness of your laptop screen? Most people will, especially if you've been looking at the screen for a long time. You might need your laptop for work, or maybe it's just a treat for your free time, but having an incorrect display can put a great strain on your eyes. Thankfully though there are a few little tricks to help improve your laptop screen brightness.

1. Step 1
You can easily alter the appearance of your screen by carefully choosing your desktop wallpaper image. Try setting your display to a dark image which has a high contrast with the rest of your theme. Spend a little time to let your eyes get used to the dark image, and then open up a word processor document or launch your web browser. These programs predominately have white or light coloured backgrounds, and hence will appear brighter to you.

This trick works on the principle of the optical illusion created by your eyes becoming used to the dark image. You can also test out this principle by staring at a black piece of paper for a long time, and then looking at a white piece of paper. The white paper will appear much more bright and crisp.

2. Step 2
Of course your laptop will have the ability to increase or decrease the brightness, so many people may wonder why not to just turn the brightness up to full. Well, it's the same theory mentioned above: your eyes become accustomed to the brightness, and over time you feel as though you need even more brightness. Another nice way to overcome this is to actually lower your laptop screen brightness for a couple of minutes or so, before turning it back up to the normal setting. This will give you a noticeable effect of increased brightness.

3. Step 3
One final tip that is really effective, and especially at night, is to use your laptop in a dark room without turning on the lights. This may seem obvious, but the contrast between your dark surroundings, and the brightness of the laptop screen really does help create a feeling of clarity. This way of working is also better for your eyes, as they do not have to focus on the objects in the room, the darkness means that your whole vision is concentrated on the screen, which makes the display seem much more vivid. This will also create a greater feeling of immersion and so is an excellent way to play games as well.

Conclusion
So as you can see there are a number of little tricks and cheats that you can do to make your laptop display seem much brighter than it actually is. These tips can help to stop the tension headaches and migraines that you may suffer from because of eye strain.

Do You Need An Apple iPad SIM Card?

Do you really need a iPad SIM card for your tablet? Well, I guess the answer is both yes and no really.Ordering an iPad SIM and putting it to the device frees one up to move just about any place, just as long as it is possible to access the mobile network through whatever supplier you wind up buying a SIM deal with. Keep in mind the iPad isn't a mobile phone though, so you still require a mobile phone handset or smart phone to look after all of your calling duties.

As soon as you're connected with a iPad SIM Card and then broadband you'll be able to get access to the world wide web whilst sending and also getting email messages and it is so simple to get going. This is especially so due to the impressive operating-system on-board the electronic device. In addition you will find there's neat and tidy virtual key-board which enables you to type via a touch screen. It can't be simpler to make the most of the Apple iPad tablet's main elements when you're away from a WiFi signal. WiFi tends to be only available in public places, such as coffee shops and hotels. The tablet is actually very clever, if it detects that you are in a WiFi zone, then it will automatically switch off the 3G and move over to the free WiFi. This is great, as you will not eat into your monthly data transfer allowance you have with your mobile network.

At this moment although you may go on the web while using the less expensive model of the Apple iPad that's a WiFi permitted product, it is genuinely beneficial paying out an additional little bit of money and buying any 3G & WiFi enabled model of the hand held device. If you don't have a 3G enabled version of the iPad, you do not need a micro SIM card. However, having just the WiFi version limits what you can do with your tablet and where you can do it. In today's tech focused world why put limits on what you can do.

The main focus with the Apple iPad is being able to get on the web, look at messages, send emails, see on line video and pretty much all the things we like to do when we are sitting at home on a desktop PC. As a result, if your going to obtain a iPad, you might as well have the full blown model that will allow you to go on line with no restrictions.

Get Free Laptop Notebook From Your Internet Service Provider

People will always want to get the best value for their money in anything that they buy. Well we cannot blame these people though, as we all know the global financial crisis is taking its toll in many of us right now. Choosing an internet service provider will not be exempted by this fact.

The internet has now become a necessity to many. Today, more and more people require internet connection in their household; their kids need it to do research for school, fathers need it for their work and home mothers need it for entertainment.

Getting an internet connection at home might sometimes be tough; you have to choose among several internet service providers who offer so many services that can confuse you.

If you are someone who is starting from scratch wherein you don't have an internet connection and a computer look for an internet service provider that offer packages that will include a desktop pc or a free laptop notebook. By doing this you will not worry about buying a pc for yourself anymore. Buying a new computer on your own will need you to take out a big amount of money from your pocket. If you take advantage of these free desktop pc or free laptop notebook deals it will be easier for your budget since the price for these devices will just be broken down to smaller amounts and will be included in your monthly internet bills.

One of the biggest factors in choosing an internet service provider is the method of how they bill their subscribers. These internet service providers use either of this two methods, by the minutes used or the amount of bytes used. If you are not really that techie you might have some problems understanding how providers calculate for the amount of bytes used so better choose an internet service provider that bills basing on the time you use your internet connection.

Choosing an internet service provider that offers free pc or free laptop notebook will truly ease up your budget. And choose a provider that charges a flat monthly internet bills so it will be simple for you. Now you don't have to worry about getting connected at home, just follow these tips and you're good to go.

Help, my computer keeps freezing! If I had a dime every time someone asked this question I would be a wealthy man. Computer screen freezing is one of the most common problems that Windows users have to face. It can also be very annoying when your computer freezes up while you are working on something important. Luckily we can stop computer freezing rather easily if you follow the advice below.

If you are wondering why your computer keeps freezing then I have a question for you. When was the last time you cleaned up your Windows registry? Despite being the most important area of your computer, the registry is also the most neglected. This can create an awful lot of problems.

Freezes almost always come from errors in your Windows registry. If you scan your computer with a registry cleaner you may be shocked by all the errors there are. This is because there is no internal tool to fix corrupt registry errors. They just keep multiplying while your computer keeps freezing.

Do not attempt to fix the registry manually. It is a very sensitive area and if the wrong information is removed or altered, you can actually make the problem worse.

When Laptop Chargers Go Bad

In order to keep your laptop up and running in good condition, it is important to treat all pieces with care to instill that it operates for a longer time frame. This not only includes your laptop, but also the laptop charger. A laptop charger is more than just a cord to plug-in the wall but instead is a necessity to keep the computer and the battery life up so that your laptop will be charged and ready to use for work or play as needed.

Most laptop computers have two power sources: One is the battery and one is the electrical cord.

The electrical cord, however, is essential to providing power to the battery. Once the laptop is unplugged, the battery will start to wear down. The older the battery and laptop, the shorter the battery life is. In order to keep your computer from dying in the middle of a project or activity, a person must use their charger to charge the battery up too. A laptop charger typically also will operate a laptop even if the battery pack is removed. A charger will provide power to the laptop, it just will not recharge the battery if it is removed.

Typically a laptop charger consists of a cord that runs from a wall outlet to a power box and from the power box another cord runs that can be plugged into the back or side of the laptop computer. Typically most charger devices have power light indicators that tell if it is properly plugged in and working. The laptop desktop will typically have an icon that shows the battery level and will also show if it is plugged in to a charger, therefore increasing the battery life again.

If a laptop charger is broken or fries out after a long extended period of time, it is imperative to find a back up immediately. It will not take long for your battery to run down on your laptop, typically a few hours. Once the computer dies, there is no turning it back on without a laptop charger. Sometimes charger devices eventually just give out or something happens where the electrical cords are somehow broken inside the protective coating.

Depending on your type of laptop, it is essential to look around to find one that is compatible to your computer. You may have to contact your computer's manufacturing brand to see if they have chargers that can be used with your computer. Otherwise, it is usually easier to conduct an online search to find one that is specific to your laptop brand and model. Depending on the chargers and the retailer, these can usually be found inexpensively. Sometimes, it is even nice to have a charger on hand just in case as a back up. When a laptop charger goes bad, it is not the end of the world unless you are someone who is constantly using your laptop computer to go online, or complete work or educational tasks and that is when you will wish you had a back up laptop charger.

Android Tablets Vs Apple iPad: The War

The manufacturing of the iPad and iPhone by the Apple Company has begun a new competitive environment for other companies that manufacture such devices. Apple has got so much fame due to its iPhone and iPad and that is why the other companies are trying to achieve such fame by introducing their devices in the market. Google is one of the top-notch companies that are trying to manufacture a device which can compete with Apple's iPad. It is going to be a challenging atmosphere for other companies as well. There has to be a computing device that can work better or equal to the Apple's one but the main thing is to manufacture a device that differs to Apple's iPad in terms of look, functionality and other features. If such a device is manufactured by any company and it can catch up the attention of most of the people then this would be a remarkable achievement. Google is trying to achieve the same objective in current scenario.

It is a real fact that Apple's iPad is not going to stand on top as compared to other devices but it will not stand for too long as most of the companies are coming up with their manufactured devices. However this year is going to be an amazing year so far for Apple because of its launching of iPad and iPhone. Google is working on its upcoming Android tablet that would outrun Apple's iPad. If you just go into the detail of this battle between Apple and Google then you would come to know that the comparison of Google Android with Apple's iPad or iPad is not justifying because these are not phones. If you just compare Android with Apple iPhone then this would also be not justifying. The reason is that the competition between Apple and Google is not over phones, it is the battle of software platform. Now a question would arise in your mind that who would win this software platform war? The answer is very much clear as the one that will come up with such device which will contain most powerful ecosystem of developers, users and mobile devices will surely win this battle.

Google android is also enjoying an impressive year so far along with Apple because the Android is intensively used by the customers. Google reported that its Android App store had got around 75,000 offerings and later on the demand rapidly rose up. The sale of Android phones is twenty percent more than that of Apple's iPhone 4 sales. The Android was not so much popular a year ago and it seemed that Android would not make it up to the level of Apple iPhone but now it is competing well. If we just sum up the overall value and reaction of people towards Android and iPhone then it would clearly justify that Android is going to be more popular than iPhone. If Google comes up with its custom-Android tablet then this would benefit Google itself because the rage for getting Android is rising as compared to iPhone.

Teachers - Formative Assessment - Informal Assessment of Students' Mathematical Dispositions

A math tuition project by Scotts Digital, a Singapore marketing company for math tuition in Singapore.:-

While there can be overlap between some types of formative and summative assessments, and while there are both informal and formal means to assess students, in this article, I will primarily offer suggestions for informal, formative assessment for the mathematics classroom, particularly in the third of the three categories suggested by Clarke & Wilson:

  1. The student's mathematical content knowledge.
  2. The student's mathematical processes, such as reasoning, communicating, problem solving, and making connections.
  3. The student's mathematical disposition, such as attitudes, persistence, confidence, and cooperative skills.

Disposition is defined as "one's usual mood; temperament, a habitual inclination, tendency." With teenagers, it is not always easy to determine their disposition or temperament regarding anything, including mathematics. Too often, if their reference group has decided that "school is not cool," then it is mandatory that they use all their body language and facial expressions (and sometimes words) to indicate their disdain for our beloved subject. We mustn't accept this at face value (no pun intended). The ideas in this article will allow you to determine your students' mathematical dispositions (sometimes without their knowing it!).

The first idea I want to offer came about almost by a fluke. Another teacher and I were creating an assessment instrument for some research we were conducting. We had about half a page left on this eight-page instrument - and didn't want to waste the paper - so we decided to pose the prompt shown below. It turned out to be the best question of the whole assessment! Consider using this prompt at the beginning of the year - and then several other times throughout the school year to get a sense of the changes taking place.

As a math student in this class, I rate myself on the following scale (put an X on the scale where you rate yourself). 1 = Probably the worst in the class; 5/6 = Not too bad; not too good; 10 = Totally awesome! Maybe the best in the school

The reason I rated myself as a/an ____ on the scale above is because:

I have found that adolescent students are willing and able to be more truthful when asked to write than when asked to share their thoughts publicly. For this reason, I use learning logs as often as possible to learn about students' dispositions toward mathematics. The term "learning log" is not one that I originated, but it is one that fits my philosophy of how writing looks in the mathematics classroom. The first part of the phrase "learning log" states the purpose of the writing: learning. The second part of the phrase "learning log" connotes a particular format, that is, running commentary. A log is not meant to be a polished piece of writing, taken through draft after draft. Commander and Smith (1996) define the purpose of learning logs as "reflections on specific cognitive aspects of learning.... (emphasizing) the connection or personal engagement with academic skills and techniques" (p. 447).

Using learning logs provides you with a variety of ways to assess students' attitudes, beliefs, and stereotypes about mathematics. The following are some writing prompts I've found useful:

  • What does a mathematician look like?
  • My ability to do math is...
  • When I am in math class, I feel...
  • Mathematics has good points and bad points. Here's what I mean...
  • I study, I pay attention, I take notes, I read my math book, but I still don't get math. True or False? Explain your answer.

Students' answers to questions such as these provide insight to the teacher as s/he plans instruction. Ignoring students' dispositions towards mathematics is done at teachers' - and students' - peril.

It's not in anyone's best interest to think that formative assessment is something that is 'added on' to our already full curriculum. Formative assessment is part of good teaching. There should be a seamlessness between instruction and assessment. Keep in mind that the word "formative" comes from the Latin word meaning "shape or form." Formative assessment has as its purpose to shape upcoming instruction. Use and/or modify the ideas offered in this article. You will find that your instruction is more targeted and more effective. Then, design more ideas of your own - and share them with as many other teachers as possible.

Solving Organizational Performance Problems

Business experts tell us that up to 95% of all organizational problems are driven by systems or process issues and are not employee related. The best efforts of people cannot compensate for dysfunctional systems and processes.

Let's start with some definitions. A process is the work you do: it is a repeatable sequence of related events or tasks that leads to a predictable outcome. A SYSTEM is a series of related processes. It might be dozens of related processes such as payroll or human resource systems. Your organization is a large system of many related processes: client services, sales, marketing, manufacturing, A problem is a GAP between current performance levels & the desired outcome in a process, service, or product.

Problem solving is a major function of management and of teams. Too often organizations and managers will band aid an issue without finding or solving the real problem. Before long the problem becomes buried beneath layers of band aids, policies, and procedures. The job of leadership is to enable staff to define the real issue. One of the best ways to do that is to use Cause and Effect Diagrams better known as Fish Boning. It is a way of finding and curing causes not symptoms. It allows staff to identify, explore and graphically display in detail, all of the possible causes related to a problem or condition. This takes you to the root cause(s) of a problem. When Fish Boning is used, it focuses on the content of a problem and not on the history or differing personal interests of staff. It creates a snapshot of the collective knowledge and consensus of a team around a problem. It focuses on causes not symptoms. All of this builds support for the resulting solutions (The Memory Jogger II, Brassard and Ritter).

Another important Team Tool is the Flowchart. This is a graphic picture of a process. Flowcharts allow a team to identify the actual flow or sequence of events in a process. These charts can be applied to any process from the flow of a payroll notices or time sheets to any client related process.

Ideally teams should construct a flowchart for a process as it is and to compare it to the improved process. Flow Charting allows a team to a come to an understanding of redundant, overly complex or unnecessary steps and to come to agreement on the activities that impact performance. It is a great training aid to understand both completed processes or to new and improved processes (The Memory Jogger II, Brassard and Ritter).

Child Prodigy - Unleashing Your Kids' Talent

A talent management article for http://www.recruitplus.com/

A recent conversation amongst my girlfriends resulted in a fist-banging declaration that Singapore lacks talent, to a point where we have to tap neighbouring countries to increase our talent pool. (Apparently musical prodigies Abigail Sin and Gabriel Ng rang no bells with these people!) Is it really absent or are we too blind to identify it?

A pressing question begun to loom in this discussion. Is talent genetic or nurtured? 'Speakers are made, not born' was a topic given to secondary school children a few years ago at the annual Plain English Speaking Award (PESA) challenge. Kids battled it out on how the talent of speaking certainly is bred in a person. Names like Lee Kuan Yew and his offspring, Hitler and his father, etc. were thrown across the room as children voiced out their opinions about how under no circumstances would speaking or any other talent have any kind of genetic roots.

We have seen 'products' of famous people who turn out to be the complete opposite of them sometimes for the worse and sometimes for the better. - think Scott Newman, son of Paul Newman, Chastity Bono, daughter of singing duo, Sonny and Cher and Romano Mussolini, son of Benito Mussolini. However to rebuttal that, we also have Singapore's Fandi Ahmad, whose boys are living up to his name of being a soccer legend, and Enid Blyton's oldest daughter, Gillian Baverstock who had a hand in the literary world. This, once again brings us to the question - are we born with an aptitude for certain things or do our surroundings actually instil in us such an aptitude?

Perhaps, a foot in each is what we are looking at. Parents should provide an environment that is conducive enough for children to unleash any talent that may be hidden within them. However, talent is also a snake that may be able to creep out even in the most unsuspecting areas. We have seen children, from dirt-poor backgrounds, who are talented enough to make a name for themselves - Sophia Loren and David Brenner. However, whatever the surroundings, how do you detect talent in a child, enough to cultivate it?

The talent of spotting talent

Spotting talent requires talent. How would you know that your five year old playing Beethovan's Fur Elsie is a talent by itself? For all you know, there could be a three year old in America playing, Chopin's Fantasia Impromptu. So how do you know if your kid is talented, or even a prodigy at that? Look for the signs.

Perfectionalism - Your child will most likely insist on doing whatever field he is skilled in, perfectly, so much so that you would begin to wonder if your child has OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder)

Dedication - If your child continues churning out good artwork or can pirouette faster than any kid in ballet class, then of course, your kid has something most kids don't. But, what sets them apart would be dedicating themselves to that particular action.

Higher than average - This has to be the top sign. Your kid draws better or plays better than the average expectation of his age. Bam! That's your major clue.

Prodigy vs Talent

Just because your child is not a prodigy does not mean he has no talent!
Before we jump there, what exactly is a prodigy?

Masey Tan-Philips remembers her little 6 year old, Eric, tirelessly practicing the piano. Now at 13, Eric has a confirmed seat in one of the top music schools in Britain. Children, who are music prodigies, show excellence in their chosen musical instrument from a young age and are able to read music and memorise any composition expertly before even reaching adolescence. Child music prodigies show mastery of their chosen instrument at young age, can read music and memorize compositions expertly before reaching adolescence. Canadian pianist Glenn Gould first composed a music piece at 5 years old!

Your child may not be able to compose or read notes but if he's able to show dedicated interest in something and enjoy doing it as well as producing good results, then you know you have a talented kid on your hands. A low IQ does not necessarily mean that your child is talent-less. IQ tests are only there to calculate the level of logic and mathematical your child has. Musical and artistic prodigies have been surpassed due to unimpressive IQ test results.

Prodigy, talent and etc are just fancy words for children who are better at something than others. The importance here is not labelling but instead, surrounding your child in a healthy environment that allows him to grow and cultivate whatever ability he may possess. As Asians we tend to focus more on the academic growth of our children and if little Xavier stars belting out songs in a phenomenal voice, we snap at him to stop singing and carry on with his math homework.

The director of India's National Bal Bhavan Madhu Panth once said about children, "there is no dearth of creativity in children, but they are not able to identify it". Therefore, as parents and caregivers, spotting talent in the little ones is something that we should aim to do. Perhaps the next time Carla starts twirling around, take a closer look. You might just be looking at a future ballerina.

HP Laptop Charger - The Basic Types

If you have had a HP Laptop, then you must be aware that the chargers that are supplied by HP along with the laptop vary over various models. All these different types of chargers are designed for various purposes and to output varied performance, but the underlying mission remains the same; to power and charge the laptop. But while the charger does its task, the owner has to remember that the charger needs to be capable enough to regulate the voltage and current at the required levels by the laptop. The same would be discussed further.

With various HP laptop chargers out there in the market, which have different internal structure and again different current and voltage levels, it is really difficult to match up one charger to another laptop. Every charger has a varied power and current level requirements, and thus before buying the second hp laptop charger, always note down the model and make of the laptop and convey the same to the shopkeeper, or better yet, take the laptop to the showroom.

Categorization of these laptop chargers can first be done on the basis of the level of power or voltage that they supply. In this category there are mainly two types of chargers, one which provides voltage level of 19V and the other which pumps 18.5 V. Depending on your laptop model, you can choose the right hp laptop charger. Never make the mistake of buying and using a laptop charger that does not precisely meet the voltage criterion. To begin with, the charger might work for a few days, but after an elongated usage, it will surely damage the internal parts of the laptop.

Unlike the voltage, the laptop chargers vary a lot in the current domain. Talking of current supply, these chargers can supply anywhere between 2.7 Amp to 6 Amp, where in most of the laptops can be charged in a current range of 3.5 Amp to 4.9 Amp. If your laptop is a gamer edition or high configuration make, then you might be requiring the latter one.

These chargers can also be categorized on the basis of the pin that the charger ends with. Basically the HP laptop charger end with totally 4 types of pin connection and they are center pin, bullet pin, large yellow connector and the yellow cover on the edge type of connector. Have a look at the power input slot of your laptop and you'll know which one to buy exactly.

The History Of Italian Food

While some of the most popular dishes associated with the Italian culture include a tempting slice of pizza and a heaping plate of pasta, there is much more to the world of Italian cooking. Throughout the many regions in Italy, the distinctive cuisine of the Italians shines through in a wide-range of eating habits, styles of cooking, and selection of local ingredients. The changing of the times has also influenced Italian food, as the meals served in the pre-Roman era possess both similarities and differences in the cuisine of today.

The culinary history of Italy established a reputation more than 2,000 years ago, which includes an illustrious movement during the Roman Empire. Culturally, food preparation was quite important in the past where flashes of significance have been captured in the only surviving cookbook (Apicius), which dates back to the first century BC.

The spread of Italian food diversity began after the fall of the Roman Empire when individual city states began to uphold separate identities and traditions. Each region began to display its own unique way of cooking, right down to the formation of a meatball to the characteristic cheeses and wine produced in a locale. The north developed Tuscan beef, while black truffles were very popular in Marches. Provolone and mozzarella cheeses developed in the south, as well as a host of interesting citrus fruits.

Diverse types of bread, variations in pasta, and varying food preparation techniques also differed according to region. The southern regions of Italy embrace hard-boiled spaghetti, while the north often prefers a soft egg noodle. Milan is known for their risotto, while Bologna has a deep history regarding tortellini, and Naples is famous for their pizzas.

Over the years, Italian cuisine has greatly evolved in part because of a wealth of outside influences that have added to its characteristic flavor and appeal. In the beginning, ancient Greek cookery became an integrated part of Italian cuisine. Eventually, a wealth of imports found their way into the kitchens of early Italians, who sent Roman ships to collect a variety of important foods, including wheat, wine, exotic ingredients, and fine spices from around the world. Some ships even traveled to faraway locations, such as China, to bring back edible resources that catapulted the depth and variety of Italian cooking styles.

Coastal regions are known for their developments in delicious fish and seafood dishes. For example, the island of Sardinia supplies a more traditional and simple style of cuisine, which often incorporated delicacies, associated with the sea. Swordfish, lobster, anchovies, sardines, and other Mediterranean treats represent Italian cooking of the area. In Sicily (another island region), a great deal of the cooking drew heavily from North African influences. An Arab influence also affected cuisine on the island and within the rest of the south, especially with the introduction of various spices and sweets, such as the Sicilian ice cream cake called cassata.

As for one of the most popular Italian dishes, while the history books often state that pasta was a product of the Chinese brought back by Venetian merchant, Marco Polo, it was actually a rediscovery of a food item eaten during Etruscan and Roman times. It is believed that the first pasta in Italy was made similar to the noodles of today - from the same durum wheat - which was cooked in ovens instead of boiled in water.

Today, the differences in Italian cooking still show through in the distinctions between the north and the south. Each region still carries their own traditions in cooking that reflects deep history and culture with a never ending supply of main courses, appetizers, and desserts that continuously tempts the taste buds.

5 IMPORTANT BENEFITS OF HOME TUITION

A math tutor singapore article for eimath Singapore -The best maths tuition centre.

We know that every child is different and performs differently at home and in schools. The children differ in their behaviour, learning and grasping power. The performance of every child is different and it cannot be compared with one another. Some students are very brilliant and some need extra attention and care so that they are able to show their performances. Private Home tuition has become necessary for every student; as a brilliant student has to compete with other students and keep the pace of getting good scores while weak students have to struggle for getting good marks. There are various benefits of home tuition for both students and parents. Some of them are listed below:

Extra attention: The students are able to get care and attention from their teacher which may be the lacking point in their traditional class rooms. Private tuition is helpful in imparting the knowledge and interest in the student and they are able to get maximum benefits from home tuition.

Improve learning styles: The students are able to explore new learning style and they are able to change the way they study in the classroom. Home tuition will help them build confidence and hence speed up their learning process. This is very important for student to discover the most effective way for learning so that they are able to excel in their studies and career in life.

Improved Performance: Sometimes the student is afraid of one subject or maybe even more. With the help of home tuition, he is able to concentrate more on that subject. Private tuition will give the students opportunity to practice more and more. It is advised that the student must take full advantage of home tuition and try various exercises so that he is able to improve upon his weakest areas.

Personalized Relationship: In private tuition, the student is able to share the opinions and ideas with his teacher and they feel closer and tell them about the weaker subjects and fears which may not be possible in the regular class room sessions. This will help both student and teacher to work towards improving them and hence the student is able to feel good about him. Home tuition is bale to open every communication channel for teachers and students participating in private tuition.

Involvement of Parents: With private tuition, parents are able to keep track of the performance of their students and they are able to get in touch with the teachers to see the progress of their child. The teacher can tell them better what should be the steps taken towards improving the scores of their child. The parents will be informed about each and every activity of their child.

We have seen that the benefits from private tuition are numerous; however, the parents must keep check on their kids and make sure that the students must not be over burdened and feel stressed out with the extra coaching in the form of private tuition. They must speak with their children regarding how they are feeling about the teacher and home tuition.
